This Yidaki has been painted by Boliny Wanambi of the Marrakulu clan, in earth pigments (ochres). This painting represents the waters around the sacred rock Bamurrungu in Trial Bay. Cross hatching and V-shapes represent flowing waters. The fish are Garrawawa (oval spot coral fish). This is a raw playing instrument with good balance of higher harmonics and bass frequencies. Due to the large bore, most players will need to make a wax mouthpiece to play the instrument comfortably. The instrument is very lightweight and thin-walled, making for the richer harmonics and brighter sound than is usual in this area. Code 2508-MI SOLD |
