Basic Setup Notes

-Pop-up Windows: Videos, transcriptions and large images are opened by clicking on small images, to open them in a new window. You should be able to leave the same window open the whole time while browsing the site, but may have to close windows as you go if there is a javascript incompatibility with your system.

-Video clips are in Quicktime format. Whenever you see the Q logo, you can click on it to open a video. Quicktime comes installed on most computers, but if you need it... www.quicktime.com

-Macromedia Flash Player 4.0 or higher must be on your computer to play the embedded soundfiles properly. If you have a slow internet connection, as we do in Arnhem Land, these files will cause a few pages to open slowly. Sorry! Flash Player comes with computers, but if you need it... www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer

Font Setup - Important

This website uses words from the Yolngu Aboriginal Languages of Northeast Arnhem Land, Australia. In order to correctly spell words from these languages, it is necessary to use a font which contains some special characters. Charles Darwin University developed one for their Yolngu Language and Culture program.

In order to view the rest of this website correctly, you will need to download this font, quit your web browser, install the font, and return to this website. Sorry for the inconvenience, but we feel it is important as part of the educational goal of this website that you are exposed to the yidaki and the culture that created it as correctly as possible.
