His father was the Gurrumuru leader Nyikamula. His mother is Balatj Mununggurr, and he lives on her land at Wandawuy. He is the younger brother of Datjirri #2 Wunungmurra, a young man groomed for influence whose artistic career has inspired this artist to follow in his footsteps. Their younger brother Gamanarra is also showing great promise. Occasionally Napurrawuy makes yidaki, usually working with only a machete as he lacks proper tools. As such, he is forced to find the perfect trees to begin with, and has succeeded in making some fantastic instruments! |
