Gurraramawuy is a hard working family man who resides at his clan outstation Dhalinybuy where he makes yidaki. He is a young man with the knowledge and stature to paint his clan's miny'tji (sacred design) He is well versed in Yolngu law and is fluent in many Yolngu languages. His brothers include Buwathay, Malalakpuy, Mirrwatnga, Djakapurra, Memawuy and Bandamul. When asked to describe a typical day of work, Gurraramawuy wrote the following.

"The first early morning I wake up have breakfast. Then I feel going to get axe ga (and) knife, went to bush looking for good shape of yidaki. Come back from bush. Then skin off yidaki. Take them to river for one week. After one week starting working yidaki. I always like use good sound yidaki."

He left out one important detail, which is that he has no car, so has to go out for his long days of yidaki cutting in the bush with a wheelbarrow!
