Date of Birth - 23.08.1973
Moiety - Yirritja
Homeland - Dhalinybuy

Djakapurra, son of Wangurri clan leader Bawurr, is one of the talented and hardworking Munyarryun brothers from Dhalinybuy. Among them are Bandamul, Gurraramawuy, Buwathay, Memawuy, Malalakpuy, and Mirrwatnga. Djakapurra distinguished himself at a young age as a yidaki player, earning the right to play in ceremony and also one of his names, Ganbulapula, relating to the story of the first Yirritja moiety yidaki. He has also distinguished himself as a dancer, performing with and acting as Yolngu consultant for Bangarra Dance Theatre, Australia's premier indigenous modern dance company. He was the featured Aboriginal performer at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Due to all this, Djakapurra often lives and works away from Arnhem Land in Sydney or Darwin. We are very happy when he brings us instruments when he is back in our area.
